Biography

Sophie Longwill is a multi-disciplinary artist who uses humour and craft to explore the everyday and make the ordinary more extraordinary. She recently completed a joint major BA (Hons) in Glass Design and History of Art and Design in the National College of Art and Design in Dublin. In 2015, she was awarded an International Student Exchange placement at the Southern Illinois University (SIU) Glass Program in the USA. She was previously awarded a FETAC level 5 in Art, Craft and Design at Grennan Mill Craft School in Co. Kilkenny. She is a jeweller for the designer Chupi and serves on the Board of the Glass Society of Ireland.

Her work has been selected for international and national exhibitions. These include the Ireland Glass Biennale 2017, NCAD Dublin, Stanislav Libensky Awards 2016, DOX Centre for Contemporary Art, Prague, Czech Republic, 2016 RDS Craft Awards, RDS, Dublin, Enantiodromia at Gallery Zozimus, Dublin (2016), Granularity, Contemporary Glass Society, Online Exhibition, UK (2015), The International Student Exhibition, Glass Art Society Conference, San Jose, California, USA (2015), and Pop Up exhibition, The Glass Olympics, Alfred University, New York, USA (2015). Her work can be found in the permanent collections of Irish Life and Kildare County Council offices and the DOX Centre for Contemporary Art.
