This piece was created using the process of pate de verre. I made a mould to the size of the original underwear and carved in the lines of my illustration. Black powdered glass was pushed into the lines, similar to the process of intaglio printing, then coloured powders and frits built over these.
The piece was then fired in the kiln. Pate de verre looks incredibly delicate and fragile. The sharp ‘dragon’s teeth’ that naturally form along the edges as the glass moves heightens the sense that this is underwear that is made to be looked at, not touched.
